What is A Diamond Ring Mounting, and What Role does It Play in The Overall Design of The Ring?

As the popular catchline says, “Diamonds are forever." Indeed they are. Your engagement remains incomplete without a diamond, irrespective of its size or design.

Diamond ring mountings play a significant role, especially for engagement rings. The engagement ring mountings ultimately define both your and your partner's style and personality. Since it is a matter of a lifetime, you must be careful enough to choose the final design.

Diamond Ring Styles

Depending on the diamond ring settings, the overall look and design of a ring can largely vary. If you are aware, you can well understand how different a Blue Nile rollover ring is from a solitary ring of the same brand.

Types of Diamond Ring Settings

The diamond ring mounting must contribute to its everlasting journey. There are several types of settings like semi-mount ring settings, bezel settings, etc. For those who work rigorously with their hands, the bezel setting holds the diamond in place and doesn't snag on things.

1. Prong Setting

This is the most popular diamond engagement ring setting. Mini claws rise and clasps the individual diamond pieces to keep them in place. They raise the diamonds, making them more prominent in appearance. However, this setting risks snagging onto different things, damaging the diamond(s) in the process. So, if you use your hands too much, it is best to avoid it.

2. Halo Setting

Here, the centre stone is secured underneath a pavé-adorned set or channel-set diamonds. This style is more popular among celebrities. It highlights the dazzling beauty of the centre diamond, preventing it from scratches or knocking on other surfaces.

3. Channel Setting

It features a set of diamonds placed side by side, each diamond being suspended by individual seats. As it ensures the security of each stone, it takes more labour, raising its overall cost.

4. Bezel Setting

This classic style features the diamond being set in a metal ring, the top stone flushing to the concerned perimeter of the ring. There are two bezel settings: a partial bezel, where two sides remain open, and a full bezel, which fully encircles the entire stone.

Apart from that, there are other semi-mount engagement rings featuring different styles, like pavé settings, micro-pavé settings, or invisible settings. Depending on your personality and style statement, you can make your choice.
